This game was trying to pick up corn kernels with chopsticks and put them on a plate.  This was hard!

In this game, one person tried to direct  the person with the hat to the hook above.

We celebrated National Day, the day of Indonesia's Independence in 1945,  with the service center staff and missionaries.  We had a wonderful Indonesian feast and played games. Photos of some of our Indonesian friends that work in the service center.

After visiting the children at the hospital we passed the summer palace and visited the Bogor Botanical

l Garden.

John and I with some nurses at the hospital.

With sister Healy and the nurses.

We accompanied Eileen Healy, a nurse and  humanitarian missionary to Bogor, a city near Jakarta to a hospital where 32 children were going to have cleft palate and cleft lip surgery.  The church provided funds  for these surgeries. We visited with the children and their families and gave them some wooden toys to play with. These operations will change these childrens' lives.

After the wheelchair ceremony, we drove to the Dieng Plateau and viewed a green sulfur lake and saw many agricultural terraces all the way to the top of the mountains.  On the way back to Yogjakarta, our driver decided to take a "shortcut."  We started on our journey about 3:00pm, winding around narrow mountain roads. The further we got, the more our driver did not know where he was.  We passed several gas stations and we all wondered why he didn't stop as it had been a long time since we had gotten gas.  The road was getting narrower, filled with pot holes   It began to rain and passing cars became very difficult. There were 8 of us plus the driver in a older van.  Finally, way up in the mountains he decided to stop at a small store where we were able to buy gas in a liter bottle which was funneled into the gas tank!  We had to do this one more time.  We finally arrived at our hotel at 9pm!  We were all glad to get there and have this "adventure" over.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a partnership with UPC (United Cerebral Palsy) to provide wheelchairs.   The church provides the funds and UPC screens patients, orders the wheelchairs and fits the patients to the chairs. The church distributes thousands of wheelchair around the world.  This wheelchair ceremony was in Banjarnegara, a 4 hour drive from Yogjakarta up in the hills.

Many custom made wheelchairs.  Fifty-eight wheelchairs were distributed over 3 days, each one specially made for a particular patient.  This is the first time these people had wheelchairs.  They varied in age.  It was so touching to see them be fitted in their wheelchair and now begin a new life.

This little boy was so excited!
